Parents should also have a thorough examination of their children if they report diplopia in older children. strabismus can be treated, but if it is not treated in time, the child will not be saved from the strabismus, and eventually his squint eye will suffer from vision loss; Of course, adults can also be treated, treatment in adults can eliminate the patient’s diplopia or at least give a normal appearance to the eyes. The treatment of strabismus is similar to the treatment of lazy eye, and the goal of treatment is to improve vision and achieve the best possible vision, aesthetic appearance, and to achieve the best direction for the eyes and to establish a single binocular vision. Treatment may include glasses or stronger eyelids to correct an imbalance of concentration (causing the weaker eye to work), exercises related to the eye muscles, botulinum toxin (currently only used in adult’s condition, or eye surgery) or surgery for correcting the situation of eye muscles.
The optimal age for surgery is 2 to 4 years old, but this operation can be performed until 7 years old. After this age, the operation is performed, but only the strabismus can be corrected, and the affected eye will have some vision loss, and even after the operation, this eye will have a tendency of becoming squint again. The surgery is performed on the muscles responsible for eye movements, so the eyeball is not split and no components are altered. Sometimes a second operation is needed.
