What is LASIK eye surgery?

LASIK, which stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, is a standard surgery that can correct the vision of people with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. On the other hand, Iran, with its strong medical infrastructure and the most reasonable prices, is a good destination for LASIK eye surgery. Here we want to study LASIK eye surgery in Iran.

This surgery is one of the many vision correction surgeries that works by correcting the cornea, the transparent part in front of the eye, to focus light on the retina, behind the eye.

Why is LASIK eye surgery performed?

When light is not focused on your retina as it should be, your vision is blurred. Ophthalmologists call this a refractive flaw. The main types are:

Myopia. You can see close objects clearly, but distant objects are blurred.

Hyperopia. Farther objects are clearly visible, but closer objects are blurry.

Astigmatism. In this situation, due to the way the eye is shaped, anything may be blurred.

Talk to your eye doctor about whether LASIK is the right approach for you. You should not have this surgery if you have the following conditions:

You are less than 18 years old

They are pregnant or breastfeeding

You Take certain medications

There have been many recent changes in your vision

Your cornea is thin or uneven

You have eye diseases such as glaucoma or very dry eyes

You have other diseases such as diabetes, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis

LASIK eye surgery in Iran: How to prepare for LASIK eye surgery?

Before LASIK, you will meet with an ophthalmologist who will talk to you about the surgical procedure. They will ask about your medical history and perform a thorough eye examination. This may include tests to measure corneal thickness, refraction, and eye pressure. They may map the cornea and dilate your pupil. The surgeon will answer any questions you may have. You can then make an appointment for surgery.

If you wear hard, gas-permeable contact lenses, do not use them for at least 3 weeks prior to evaluation. Do not wear any contact lenses for at least 3 days prior to evaluation. Be sure to bring your glasses so the surgeon can examine your prescription.

On the day of surgery, eat a light meal before arrival and take all prescribed medications. Do not use eye makeup or bulky accessories in your hair that may interfere with the position of your head. If you are not feeling well that morning, call your doctor’s office to ask what to do.

LASIK eye surgery in Iran: What Happens During LASIK Eye Surgery?

Your doctor will give you eye drops to numb your eyes. You can also request a weak sedative.

They use a device called a microkeratome or femtosecond laser to create a thin flap in the cornea. They remove it and use another laser to rearrange the tissue below. Then, the flap is put in place and the surgery is over.

The LASIK process itself usually takes about 20 minutes. Plan for someone to take you home after surgery.
