Chemotherapy involves the administration of anticancer drugs. After entering the bloodstream, these drugs travel throughout the body and kill all malignant cells, both at the initial site of the tumor (start point) and in the diffused areas (metastasis). Chemotherapy can be given alone (intravenously as a serum) or in combination with other medicines (such as targeted medicines such as Herceptin) before or after surgery, along with or after radiotherapy. Depending on the type of disease, the patient receives one or more medications. These drugs attack cancer cells and stop them from growing, but they may also do a little damage to healthy cells in the body, which is inevitable. On the other side, Iran has great medical infrastructure with lowest cost. In the following, we want to delve in chemotherapy in Iran.
Normally, the body’s cells grow and divide in a completely controlled way, but cancer cells grow and divide irregularly and without any control and very quickly. Chemotherapy drugs can destroy fast-growing cells, and by slowing down the growth and destroying cancer cells, the symptoms of cancer can be quickly decreased.

Our patients’ experience of Healtha treatment
Chemotherapy (also called chemo) is a type of cancer treatment that uses drugs to destroy cancer cells. It works by stopping or slowing the growth of cancer cells, which grow and divide quickly. It can also harm healthy cells that divide quickly, such as those that line your mouth and intestines or cause your hair to grow.
Treatment schedules for chemotherapy vary widely. How often and how long you get chemotherapy depends on your type of cancer and how advanced it is, the goals of treatment, the type of chemotherapy, and how your body reacts to chemotherapy. You may receive chemotherapy in cycles, which is a period of chemotherapy treatment followed by a period of rest.
You may have a lot of side effects, some, or none at all. This depends on the type and amount of chemotherapy you get and how your body reacts. Before you start chemotherapy, talk with your doctor or nurse about which side effects to expect.
Stay away from strong smelling foods to avoid aggravating any disorders of taste. Avoid fatty fried, spicy and overly sweet foods, as they may induce nausea. Avoid refined sugars (including raw, brown and palm sugar) as well as refined carbohydrates as most tumors prefer glucose as a source of energy.
Hair usually begins falling out two to four weeks after you start treatment. It could fall out very quickly in clumps or gradually. You’ll likely notice accumulations of loose hair on your pillow, in your hairbrush or comb, or in your sink or shower drain. Your scalp may feel tender.

Chemotherapy affects cancer cells in several ways:
Destroys part of the cancer cell
Stops the growth of cancer cells
Cuts food for cancer cells
Chemotherapy drugs are prescribed in several ways:
Intramuscular or subcutaneous injection or directly into the cerebrospinal fluid
Intravenous injection method that is administered through an peripheral venous catheter or through a port in the central veins of the body
Intra-arterial injection method in which chemotherapy drug is usually administered directly into the arteries feeding the tumor.
Oral method in the form of tablets, capsules or liquid that the patient eats
A topical or rubbing method in which a chemotherapy drug is rubbed onto a patient’s skin
Intravenous injection or oral intake are usually used to treat breast cancer.
The duration of injection of each drug depends on the type of drug and the treatment regime. It is the doctor who determines it and it has nothing to do with other patients’ treatment plans and one patient’s plan should not be compared with other patients. Just ask your doctor about this. Chemotherapy drugs are prescribed several times. The day they inject is usually called “day one” and then the next times are adjusted based on the first day, every 8, 15, 21 or 28 days. The time between the first day and the last day of that period is called a cycle.

Side-effects of treatment often occur, but it is not clear which of them occurs in the patient. This means that it is not necessary for all the mentioned complications to occur in the patient, but the most common places of these complications displaying are:
Digestive system (mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines)
Bone marrow (blood cells)
skin and hair
Sexual organs (vaginal secretion in women)
But most of these side effects are temporary and can be completely cured by medication or special measures.
